New Hampshire Medicaid Spend Down

Are you facing a tight deadline to qualify your loved one for Medicaid? Our Funeral Directors are experienced and knowledgeable about creating irrevocable mortuary trust accounts. Whether your loved one prefers cremation or burial, we can help you understand your options and help you create a plan that meets your family’s needs and budget. Failure to get your loved one’s application approved could mean that you will have to reapply and delay this arduous process.

Irrevocable funeral accounts are considered a non-asset by Medicaid. Once set up and funded, the money set aside to fund your loved one’s funeral cannot be touched until after their death and then only to fund their funeral in accordance with the arrangements set in place.

While it is recommended to get as much detail completed as possible in the advanced funeral plan, some families just want to preplan the basics and finalize the little details at the time of death. Both are options available to you.

The best way to establish an irrevocable account is to call us at (603) 485-9573 (Pembroke) or (603) 798-3050 (Epsom) and set an appointment to meet with one of our Funeral Directors. We will help you complete this process as quickly as possible.

It would be our honor to walk you through this process.

It is important to note that New Hampshire law dictates that if the individual themselves set a plan in place and funded it previously, the arrangements must be carried out to the extent that they have been arranged and funded for (RSA 290:20). In the rare event that the money in the account reaches a point where there are more funds available than are necessary to pay the expenses, the excess funds will be returned to the Estate of the decedent. As a result, those funds may be subject to claims by the State of New Hampshire or the United States Government (RSA 325:46-a VI)
