Leland H. French

CHICHESTER- Leland H. French of Chichester, passed away at home on November 4, 2021.

He was born in Pittsfield on December 5, 1930, the son of Clyde R. and Beatrice F. (Herrick) French.

He graduated from Pittsfield High School where played basketball. His favorite was indeed baseball. He was drafted out of high school by the Boston Braves and later, he joined the Marines where was an MP in Hawaii, before playing ball for them as well. He later played ball in the Sunset League for Rumford Press, where he worked until they closed.

Anyone that knew Leland knew his love for the game of baseball.  He loved to watch his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren play.  He was there to cheer them on for all their sports events.  His family was very important to him.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Frances (Hill) French; a daughter Frances “Bunny”; grandsons, Clyde and Justin, a great grandson, Ryan; and six of his sisters Charlotte, Carol, Eva, Jane, Grace, and Virginia.

He is survived by his sister, Louise Kenney of Concord; 3 children, Edmond Thibodeau and fiancé Sandra Collins of Greenland, Leland F. “Frenchie” French and fiancé Marylou Parsons of Chichester and Lynda Martel and husband Michael of Chichester.  He also leaves 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14th from 2 to 3 P.M.  in the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom.  A Celebration of His Life will follow at 3 P.M.  The family will plan a spring burial to be held at Floral Park Cemetery in Pittsfield.  To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.stilloaks.com
