Laury Nichols Obituary

CHICHESTER - Laury E. Nichols, of Chichester, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at her home. She was born in Rumson, NJ on December 14, 1943 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Levenson) Needle, who always called her Peanut.

A graduate of Orange County High School, Dade Community College, and University of Miami Gainesville, she enjoyed teasing her mom about how far all her tap dancing lessons had got her.  She expanded on her formal college art classes to develop her unique sculptural art marketed professionally for over fifty years as L Nichols Woodcarving.  She built her work to suit her fiercely independent and examined lifestyle, traveling to far corners of the earth and consistently building new friendships near and far.

Laury is survived by her two sons: Matt (Allison Kennedy) Nichols and James (Travis Loller) Nichols; and her three grandchildren: Benjamin Nichols and Zinnia and Lucas Nichols Loller. In addition to her parents, Laury is predeceased by her sister: Susan ‘Cookie’ Needle.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 4 on her studio grounds at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Salvation Army Kid’s Café, 121 Cedar St., Manchester, NH 03101, or to the League of NH Craftsman, 49 South Main St., Suite 100, Concord, NH 03301.
