Joshua Kennard Obituary

Joshua Channing Kennard died peacefully on February 26, 2021 at home in Concord, New Hampshire after a long illness.  He was 45.  Josh was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, the only son of Robert and Ann Kennard.  Robert was a U.S. Navy and WWII veteran who attended Dartmouth College using the first generation G.I. Bill.  Ann was a journalist who worked as a travel writer for the New Hampshire Travel and Tourism Department- www.visitnh.gov

 

Josh’s family moved from Marblehead to Atkinson, New Hampshire and then relocated to East Concord, New Hampshire in 1985.  Josh graduated from Concord High School at the top of his class in 1993.  Josh was on the downhill skiing and tennis teams at Concord High.  Josh enrolled in Dartmouth College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in 1997.  Josh was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha and Panarchy Fraternities at Dartmouth.

 

Josh moved to Stowe, VT after graduation to work and ski.  Josh moved to New York City to work for Mimeo, Inc. a software company.  He lived and worked in Greenwich Village in Manhattan for several years.

 

Josh returned to Concord, NH to help care for his father until his death in 2003.  Josh remained in Concord to care for his mother until her death in 2015.

 

Josh loved his dogs, the outdoors, fishing, skiing, photography and reading.  Josh struggled with depression but remained a thoughtful friend and a dedicated son.

 

Josh is survived by his uncle, Ronald Helling, of New Bern, North Carolina.  Josh will be laid to rest with his parents.  Due to Covid, a remembrance ceremony will be held later.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Josh’s name to the Society for the Protection of NH Forests at www.forestsociety.org or the National Alliance on Mental Illness www.nami.org.
