Gene Smith Obituary

CHICHESTER – Gene W. Smith, 82, of Chichester, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Concord Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born on April 20, 1939 in Orford, NH, he was the son of the late Hazen L. and Lizzie B. (King) Smith.

Gene was educated in the local schools and went on to enlist in the United States Navy in 1956 where he proudly served his country. He worked for many years as a custodian for the Federal Building in Concord and later for Concord High School until his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Lodge where he enjoyed playing darts, He held the record for the 400 club at Boutwells bowling in Concord for many years. He enjoyed Baseball, Golf, Hunting and fishing as well as working in his award winning garden with his wife. He loved raising and showing Doberman dogs and is survived by his favorite cat Missy.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Glen Smith and Russell Smith.

He is survived by his wife Nancy (Hebert) Smith of Chichester, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, daughter, Sherrie Wentworth of Port Orange, FL, brother, Louis Smith and his wife Emily and sisters, Lorraine Smith and Ginny Smith as well as several nieces and nephews.
