Chester C. Smith, Jr.

PITTSFIELD – Chester C. Smith, Jr., 69, of Pittsfield, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Granite VNA Hospice House following a lengthy period of declining health. 

Born on September 16, 1953 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Chester C. Smith, Sr. and Juanita (Abraham) Smith. During his early years, Chester’s family relocated to New Hampshire where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. 

Following his high school graduation, Chester joined the United States Army and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1978. He worked for many years with Stowe Woodward Manufacturing until his retirement. 

Chester enjoyed the outdoors and could be found camping, hunting or fishing. He loved the game of basketball and found joy in teaching others how to play as well. Spending time with his family or rooting for his beloved Patriots were paramount.  

He is survived by his wife, Tammy (Hartford) Smith of Pittsfield, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage; his children, Cassandra Smith and her partner Kyle Tiede of Barnstead, Matthew Smith and his wife Holly of Northfield and Juanita Snedeker and her partner Jon Gouchernouer of Pittsfield; siblings, David Smith and his wife Paula of Epsom, William Smith and his wife Pam of Chichester and Kirk Smith of Pittsfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren, Rose, Roger, Naomi, Dolores and Dorothy.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Logan, Delilah, Autumn, Tenley, Brock, Daric, Jack, Aubree and Hunter as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
