EPSOM- Mr. Charles A. Corliss, Sr., 76, of Epsom, passed away at the Epsom Healthcare Center on August 23, 2023 after a period of declining health.
Born in Pittsfield, Charlie was the son of the late Stanley and Helen (Ambrose) Corliss. Charlie was a lifelong resident of Epsom, raised by his maternal grandparents, Watson and Helen Ambrose along with two cousins, Patricia (Seguin) Merrow and Emily (Seguin) Turner.
He is survived by his former wife, companion and caregiver, Brenda Parker of Epsom; son, Charles “Chuck” Corliss, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Pittsfield; three granddaughters, Paige Weiderholt, Colleen Haupert and Morgan Corliss. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Corliss and his wife Mary, and Thomas Corliss of Barnstead. Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Robert Corliss in 2012.
Charlie was the Allenstown Shed 506 Patrol Foreman for the NH Department of Transportation District 5 Maintenance Bureau. He retired in 2008 after 38 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for Russell and Robert Yeaton on their dairy farm in Epsom.
Charlie was a man of many talents who liked to keep busy. He enjoyed working with wood, building his own home and many beautiful pieces of furniture. Because of his talent and work ethic he was often asked to assist family and friends in the building of their homes. He also oversaw and assisted in the building of the Allenstown and Bow State Sheds.
Charlie was a hard worker tending his field producing yearly crops of hay, plowing and tilling the land for gardens and cutting his own firewood. He was never idle, always find something that needed to be taken care of or repaired.
He was always available to help anybody who asked. For many years he was caretaker to a friend’s home where he tended the lawns and maintained the home.
After retirement he spent many enjoyable hours attending his three granddaughters sporting events. He enjoyed country music, Johnny Cash being his favorite and especially enjoyed attending the Deerfield Fair every year with his son.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, September 23rd from 12:30 to 2 P.M. in The Roan Family Funeral Home – Still Oaks Chapel, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom. A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will follow at 2 P.M followed by a reception at the same location. A private burial will be held at a later date.
