Carroll Werren Obituary

EPSOM – Carroll E. Werren, 67, of Epsom, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, at his residence.

Carroll was born in Portland, ME on April 9, 1956, son of the late Richard E. and Florence E. (Downing) Werren. He was educated in the local schools and went on to earn his degree in Fire Science before joining the United States Air Force which he proudly served in from 1975-1980.

In 1983, Carroll was hired by the Concord Fire Department, where he served the city for 24 years. He was promoted to Company Inspector in 1994 and retired as a Lieutenant in 2007. In 2001, he was honored as the Firefighter of the Year, and he carried that title proudly. He lived his life as someone always wanting to help, never sitting back, and was a jack of all trades. Carroll was very active in the community where he resided.  For many years, he volunteered with the Epsom Youth Athletic Association, where he coached and was referee for youth basketball. He also umpired softball across the state and served as the Epsom Baseball Commissioner.  Carroll was instrumental in the creation and building of the Jeremy T. Charron memorial baseball field in Epsom.  Carroll could often be found mowing the lawn at the Epsom traffic circle or at the Fire House. He was a pilot, loved to fly, and was the owner and president of Chutes Up, a powered Parachute Company. He worked on small engines, enjoyed crafts of many kinds including-stained glass, and painted and wallpapered houses for many years. He enjoyed playing softball, basketball, scuba diving, ice fishing and was a die-hard Yankees fan.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Michael Werren.

He is survived by his wife Susanne (Wholey) Hendrick of Epsom with whom he shared 22 years of marriage, his children, Jason Werren of Franklin Grove, IL, Carole Dumas and her husband David of Pembroke and Joel Werren of Epsom, siblings, Reece Werren and his wife Kathy of Moultonborough, NH, Kathleen Gesner of Buxton, ME, Christine Pratt of Sanford, ME, Joline Depew of Dexter, ME, Rosemary Servis of Mashpee, MA and William Werren of Friendship, ME, grandchildren, Jackson, Maxwell, Stella, Connor, Alexander and Khaleesi as well as many nieces, nephews, Aunt Shirley and cousins.
