PITTSFIELD- Mr. Andrew A. Messier, 89 a resident of Pittsfield for over 45 years, joined his loving wife of 69 years.  He was known by many as Gramps,  Andy and Uncle A.

Gramps has left the building the afternoon of August 11, 2023.  His life was long and full and he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family.

Throughout his life, during every party and gathering he'd yell, "Hey! Is everybody happy?!" and after the cheers he'd say, "Good! The ones that ain't, go home!"

Andy was born on March 3, 1934 in Bedford, NH, the son of the late Albert and Marie (Gamache) Messier.

Andy was employed as an Artesian Well driller for many years, until his retirement.  In his younger years he enjoyed working on race cars and running the local Saturday night races with his brother in-laws.  He also enjoyed woodworking and making crafts for Anna to paint and sell.  He was a “tinkerer” taking things you threw out and making them into some working contraption.  In his early retirement he made many variations of pig cookers from old oil barrels, washing machine motors and whatever else he could come up with and began doing pig roast for family, friends and friends of friends.

Andy along with his wife, had a great fondness for the Pittsfield Balloon Rally, sponsoring balloons and were host and hostess to over 20 yearly family Balloon Rally reunions throughout the years.

Andy was predeceased by his wife Anna, a son, Daniel “Danny” Messier and a daughter, Catherine “Cathy” Carr.  Andy was the last surviving Messier sibling of 12.

He is survived by his children, Margaret “Peggy” Foster and her husband George; Richard “Dick” Messier, Charles “Chuck” Messier and his wife Julie; grandchildren, Doug and his wife Jen, Andrea and her husband Leland, Amber and her husband Jason, James, Steven, Jon and his wife
