Obituary

William H. Rothney, 76, of Littleton, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at The Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care DHMC. Bill, as he was known, was born on September 19, 1947 in Portsmouth, NH to the late Cecil and Cecelia (Kopanski) Rothney. Bill was raised in Lisbon NH, attended Lisbon schools and upon graduation enlisted in the US Army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran and a retired Sargeant First Class of the SVC Btry, 2nd Bn, 197th FA, NHARNG. Bill married Patricia Wrigley on October 16th ,1976. Together they raised their two children, Heather and Billy, in a community of family and friends. Bill worked as a foreman for NH DOT for over twenty years. After retiring, he and Pat created a second home at Deer Creek Golf Resort in Davenport, Florida. Winters were spent golfing, spending time with friends and enjoying the warm weather. Bill enjoyed taking care of his family and friends and was always available to lend a helping hand. He was known for wearing shorts and a tee-shirt no matter the weather. Bill was one of the "good guys" and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Pat Rothney, his daughter, Heather Gagne and her husband Steve, his son, William Rothney and his wife Regyn, and his two grandchildren, Mason and Lucas Gagne. He leaves his five sisters, Nancy Thomas and her husband Phillip, Carol Abbott and her husband Roland, Lois Grout and her husband Ted, Mary Schrum and her husband Vern, Diane Feraway, his sister-in-law Linda Wrigley and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Donald Wrigley. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at 11AM.
