With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Wendy Pamela Miles Laro, who passed away peacefully at her home in Epsom, New Hampshire, surrounded by her devoted family after a sudden and brief illness on July 7, 2026.
Wendy was born on September 25, 1945, in Ventura, California, to the late Arthur and Laura Miles. As a young girl, her family returned to New Hampshire, where she grew up in Alton and later Sanbornton. From an early age, Wendy's energy, determination, and joyful spirit shined brightly. She was a gifted athlete, playing varsity basketball, softball, and serving as a cheerleader during her time at Alton High School. Wendy continued on with varsity basketball for Franklin High School in which she graduated from in 1963. She continued to carry with her a lifelong love of sports, competition, and teamwork that would remain part of her throughout her life.
One evening in 1961, at a teenage dance, Wendy met the young man who would become the love of her life. She and Arthur built a beautiful partnership founded on love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They were married on June 26, 1965, and together shared more than six decades of marriage, raising a family, building several homes, and creating countless treasured memories.
After attending the University of New Hampshire, Wendy completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Suffolk University in 1967. She dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a medical technologist, working at several hospitals throughout Massachusetts before spending more than twenty-five years in the Hematology Laboratory at Lahey Clinic. She took great pride in her work, quietly helping countless patients through her skill, compassion, and commitment before retiring in 2012.
While Wendy had a fulfilling career, nothing brought her greater pride or joy than her family. She and Arthur raised their three children—Michelle, Eric, and Annette—in North Andover, Massachusetts, where Wendy created a home filled with love, encouragement, laughter, and unwavering support. She was always there—whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, planning family vacations, celebrating life's milestones, or simply offering a listening ear and a comforting hug. Her greatest gift was making each member of her family feel deeply loved.
Wendy leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter, Michelle Smith, and granddaughters Sadie and Emily of North Andover, Massachusetts; her son, Dr. Eric Laro, and his wife, Meghan, and their children, Ryan and Annika, of Salem, Oregon; and her daughter, Annette Pelletier, and her husband, Denis of Epsom, NH, and their daughter, Ashley, of Tampa, Florida.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: her brother Peter Miles and his wife, Lori, of Auburn, New Hampshire, and their children Richard, Logan, and Kaitlin; her sister Robin Wells of Cambridgeport, Vermont, and her children Todd and Tatha; and her youngest brother, Tom Miles, and his wife, Beth of Charlottesville, Virginia, and their daughters Danielle, Kate, and Theresa. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and all those whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
Wendy embraced life with enthusiasm and grace. A lifelong athlete, she enjoyed playing tennis for many years in a women's league at Trull Brook in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Later, she happily discovered pickleball, enjoying the friendships and camaraderie it brought both in New Hampshire and while wintering with Arthur in Citrus Hills, Florida.
She found peace and happiness by the ocean. During retirement, Wendy spent ten wonderful years in Wells, Maine, where she delighted in long walks along the beach, swimming, boogie boarding, and welcoming family to create memories together. The coast of Maine was her sanctuary—a place where she felt most at home. Eventually, she and Arthur returned to New Hampshire, settling in Epsom, where they enjoyed the beauty of every summer and fall before escaping to sunny Florida each winter.
Wendy loved camping with the Miles family, hiking wooded trails, discovering lighthouses and covered bridges, and traveling to new places. More than anything, she loved being surrounded by the people she held dear. She had a warm smile, a kind heart, and a quiet strength that made others feel welcome, supported, and loved. Whether you knew her for a lifetime or only a short while, Wendy had a remarkable way of leaving people better than she found them.
Though her family is heartbroken by her loss, they find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and in the love she shared so freely throughout her life. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and in the many lives she touched with her generosity, compassion, and gentle spirit.
A private burial will be held at McClary Cemetery in Epsom, New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Wendy's Life will be held at her home, 22 Wimbledon Road, Epsom, New Hampshire, on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 1pm to 5pm.
