Deerfield, NH – It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of my beloved husband, Steven C. Anderson, 81, of Deerfield, NH on July 21, 2026, after a brief illness with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on July 29, 1944, in Worcester, MA, he was the only child of Oscar W. and Ellen R. (Stevenson) Anderson of Northboro, MA.

Steven was a graduate of Algonquin Regional High School in Northboro, MA, class of 1962. This is where he met his future wife on the last day of high school on the class trip to New Hampshire. Steven graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, MA, class of 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology. He worked at Shattuck’s Pharmacy in Northboro, MA and was on the Rescue and Volunteer Fire Department as well.

Steven dated his future wife for five years before their marriage at the Martha-Mary Chapel at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury, MA on August 12, 1967. They celebrated their first anniversary apart, as Steven had been drafted into the U.S. Army and was in basic training in Augusta, GA. Their second anniversary was also celebrated apart, with Steven stationed in Long Binh, Vietnam. Even with the challenges of being separated, their marriage stood the test of time, they would have celebrated 59 years in August.

Upon returning from Vietnam, Steven was employed at the Medical College of Georgia/Talmadge Hospital in Augusta, GA. In 1971, they moved to Deerfield, NH and Steven worked at the VA Medical Center Pharmacy in Manchester for 25 years.

During this time Steven was introduced to the thrill of maple production. He had his own sugar house and “Anderson’s Mini-Maples” was formed. In 2005, he became a member/vendor at the Seacoast Growers Association, currently Seacoast Eat Local in Portsmouth and Exeter, NH. While Steven was well known for his maple syrup and candy, people would line up before the market opened for his enormous dinner plate dahlias – they were a huge success. Steven was one of the original vendors at the Salem, NH Farmers’ Market family since its opening in 2010. He was also a regular at the Farmers’ Markets in Candia and Deerfield Farmers’.

Steven was a maple producer for over 50 years and took great pride sharing his products and connecting with the community. He truly enjoyed talking with his customers and educating them on the process of making maple syrup from maple sap. He would often come home sharing stories of customer conversations and wanted to write a small book of their comments. I’m sure that he would approve if I shared two of them: “A person came, saw his prices of syrup and said, ‘That’s a lot of money; I’ll stick with my Aunt Jemima syrup.’ In true Steven fashion, he responded, ‘Do you not know that they get Aunt Jemima syrup by tapping telephone poles?’” His favorite was the banter over his maple-coated pecans. Folks would request maple-coated pecans and would have their pronunciation corrected, “They are called ‘Pa-Kans’, not ‘Pee-Cans’ – that’s what goes under the bed.” The ladies would get huffy, but their husbands would be killing themselves laughing. Steven wanted his friends to remember him as a woodsman and maple producer.

Steven is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy “Dotty” S. Anderson of Deerfield; his cousin, Susan Cox of Williamsburg, VA; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Les Matson; sister in-law, Carolyn Van Iderstine all of Coffeeville, AL; and “Spark” his beloved cocker spaniel.

As per Steven’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A memorial service will be held in West Bend, AL at a later date and his ashes will be buried in his wife’s family plot. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Chichester United Methodist Church – building fund, PO Box 39, Epsom, NH 03234 or to a Military Veteran’s Support group of your choice.
