Obituary

ALLENSTOWN - Stephen H. Millard, 82, of Allenstown, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Concord Hospital. Born on September 22, 1939 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Jack and Charlotte (Drake) Millard. Stephen was someone you remembered when you met him, a character and amazingly accomplished man. A graduate of Hastings High School in NY, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy serving on the USS Coral Sea, studying nights at the University of Rhode Island where he graduated with honors before receiving several degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Northeastern with a Bachelors in Engineering and a minor in Psych earning honors there as well and attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on full scholarship, Berkshire Community College where he studied Liberal Arts and Scientific Arts and even studied at Antioch College where he joking references studying draw poker. Stephen worked for many years as a technical writer, even writing several environmental impact statements for nuclear power plants. He learned how to ride a bike from a book, he picked up a bike one day and rode from the Berkshires to Tennessee and back. He was a professor for several years at UMASS Lowell, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and later Nashua Tech. He had an immense love for his Beagle Bridget and he was often seen out walking her with his cowboy hat on. He was well known for his role as Santa Claus, a role he held for many years at the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua. Stephen loved life and still had so many things left to accomplish. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Janie True. He is survived by his children, Susan Masson of Londonderry, Tom Millard of IN and Chuck Millard of OH, his life partner, Diane Millard of Londonderry, one sister, Sally Miller of NY and two granddaughters, Sylvie and Willow, long-time friends, Barbara and Gordon Stockman of Littleton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There are no services scheduled at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Roan Family Funeral Home in Pembroke is assisting the family with arrangements.
