Scott Edward Mulrenin
May 7, 1957 – May 24, 2026
Born on May 7 in Cape May, New Jersey, where his love for the ocean began. His taste for fishing started in a little duck boat on the Cape May Canal, followed by his first commercial fishing trip at just 14 years old with Eric Axelsson Sr. aboard the Dolphin — the very same boat that had brought his father and mother from New England to Cape May in 1951.
Scott loved Cape May, but his heart was always with his wife, his children, and fishing in New England.
A Vietnam veteran. A commercial fisherman. A husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Rox-Anne Mulrenin; his mother, Ella Mulrenin; his children, Augusta James Mulrenin, Melissa Marie Mulrenin, and Angela Lee Boyle; his sisters, Cheri Zebrowski and Valarie Sorensen; many nieces and nephews; Scott was a proud grandfather to Austin, Gavin, Ethan, and Kiersyn Boyle; Connor and Ryker Mulrenin; Kassandra Lynn Lavoie; and Hunter and Scott Coriaty. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Daniel Joseph Boyle. He was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Mulrenin.
Outside of his work, Scott loved the simple moments in life — camping, grilling, listening to music, fishing, especially night fishing, working on cars, mending nets, and crafting handmade gifts from fishing line, including dog leashes. If his hands were busy, his heart usually was too.
To those who loved him most, Scott was more than the titles he carried.
"He was the lighthouse that guided us toward the people who could teach us the things he could not."
His lessons were not always spoken, but lived — through hard work, loyalty, resilience, humor, and the way he showed up for the people he loved.
Scott's story will continue through the family he built, the memories he created, and the lives he helped shape along the way. Like the tides he spent his life beside, his presence will continue to be felt long after he is gone.
May he sail peacefully beyond the horizon, forever loved, forever remembered.
A Celebration of Scott's life will be held at one of his favorite places on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 beginning at 12:30PM at the Coop Dock, 1 Peirce Island Road, Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250 or Maine Fishermen's Forum, P. O. Box 1198, Rockport, ME 04856.
