Ross E. McFarland passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Born on June 21, 1948, in Bangor, Maine, Ross lived a life defined by dedication, friendship, and love for his family.
He was a graduate of Concord High School in the class of ‘66. He proudly served in the United States Navy from approximately 1967 to 1973. During the 1970-71 Mediterranean cruise aboard the destroyer USS Hugh Purvis (DD 709), he was a Fire Control Technician, Petty Officer Second Class. After leaving the Navy, he got an Associates degree in Electrical Engineering from the New Hampshire Technical Institute. He continued his commitment to service through a career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for more than 40 years. A longtime resident and service provider of Concord, New Hampshire, he was well-known and respected by many.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karen; his father, Vernon McFarland; and his mother, Margaret (Mingo) McFarland.
He leaves behind his loving children: sons Derek McFarland and his partner, Lisa; Sean McFarland and his wife, Kim; and daughter Meagan McFarland and her partner, Jamie. He was a proud grandfather to Brody, Carter, Daisy, Alexia, and Landon, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Scott McFarland and his wife, Juliana, and Barry McFarland and his wife, Kathye; and his sister, Margo Bowie; his nieces, Jessica and Natasha; and his nephew, Christian.
To some, he was lovingly known as Grampa Mac, and to so many others, he was Bumpa—a special name that reflected the love, laughter, and warmth he brought into the lives of those around him. No matter what he was called, he held a special place in the hearts of so many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In his free time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, watching sports, and, above all, spending time with friends and family. He was a remarkably intelligent man with an incredible knack for trivia. Whether the topic was history, sports, or some obscure fact, he could seemingly answer anything—and rarely lost a trivia challenge. His quick wit, sharp mind, and wealth of knowledge made him a memorable presence wherever he went.
He will be remembered for his dedication, wisdom, humor, and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, family, and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they made with him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2026 from 11AM-1PM at the Roan Family Funeral Home, 167 Main Street, Pembroke. Military Honors will begin at 1PM. To share a memory or offer condolences please visit www.roanfamilyfuneral.com
