PEMBROKE- Mr. Robert Edwin Smith, 85, of Pembroke, went peacefully home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 9, 2026.

Robert was born on October 8, 1940, in Concord, NH to the late Norman and Abbie (Bigelow) Smith. He was raised and educated in Pembroke and was a graduate of Pembroke Academy Class of 1959.

He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a radioman aboard the USS Lester and USS Witke. He was honorably discharged after four years of service.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Smith Oil Company in Pembroke and later spent 28 years as a print feeder for Concord Litho.

Robert enjoyed playing rummy and cribbage. He also enjoyed following the stock market, playing various games, especially checkers and chess on the internet, and was an avid Red Sox fan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne Smith; his son, Jacob Smith, and his sister: Norma Heselton.

He is survived by his son, Joshua Smith of Concord and his four grandchildren, George, Josephine, Jack and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Doyle as well as his nephew, Jim Doyle and his niece, Patricia McCaw.

In accordance with his wishes, visitation and burial took place privately with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be sent to the Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury St. Concord, NH 03301. Assisting the family with arrangements is The Roan Family Funeral Home of Pembroke.
