ALLENSTOWN - Richard J. "Bear" Poitras, 75, of Allenstown, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Concord Hospital following a period of declining health. Born on March 3, 1947 in Manchester, he was the son of the late Wilfrid and Rose (Allard) Poitras. Bear worked most of his life as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator until his retirement. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing more recently he was into assembling model cars and woodworking. He served on the Allenstown Fire Department for many years as an Engineer. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, David Poitras. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Priscilla Poitras of Allenstown and a daughter, Kelly Veinot and her husband Mark of Franklin as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. There are no calling hours. A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 10AM at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, River Road, Allenstown. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1PM-4PM at the home of Kelly and Mark, 146 Chestnut Street, Franklin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, #104, Manchester, NH 03101.
