New Boston – Rev. Dr. Rhonda MacLeod, age 65, of New Boston, NH died suddenly on May 15, 2025. She was born on March 21, 1960, in New Bedford, MA to George Herman and Audrey (Arruda) Costa. Rhonda was married to Andrew MacLeod and had two wonderful daughters, Lindsay and Jennifer. She remarried in 2004 to Karen Walter, and they built a home together in Peterborough, NH along with Karen's daughters, Lauren and Carolyn.
Rhonda valued education highly. She was educated in the Catholic school system and especially loved Bishop Stang High School where she received a rigorous education and the nurture of a loving community. Rhonda graduated from Stonehill College with a major in biology. She went on to work as a veterinary technician and as a science teacher at numerous schools, including Fairhaven High School, Holy Family, New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and Boynton Middle School. Rhonda also crewed on the schooner Ernestina for two summers, serving as a naturalist - one of the great joys in her life.
In 1999, Rhonda enrolled at Andover Newton Theological School following a lifelong call to ministry. She earned her Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling degrees and was ordained in the United Church of Christ. She served as pastor in Marlborough, Manchester, and Concord NH. She interned at the NH State Prison for Women in Goffstown, Shea Farm in Concord, and was chaplain for women at the Cheshire County House of Correction in Keene.
Rhonda had a love and passion for music and was an accomplished guitarist playing at folk masses, Tryworks Coffee House (another family to her), home and church. She loved "her ocean," Buzzards Bay, and felt at home sailing. She also loved kayaking, road trips, dogs (especially greyhounds), and good linguica.
Rhonda is survived by her wife, Karen Walter; two daughters, and their husbands, Lindsay MacLeod and Brian Miller and Jennifer (MacLeod) Montijo and Jeremy Montijo; and Karen's daughters, Carolyn and Lauren and their spouses and families.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:00am at the Dunbarton Congregational Church, 6 Stark Hwy N, Dunbarton, NH 03046.
