Mr. Philip A. Tumey, 68, of Elm Street, died Thursday, October 22, 2009, surrounded by his family, at the Concord Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Cohasset, MA on June 3, 1941, he was the son of Philip D. and Daisy (White) Tumey. He was a 1959 graduate of Cohasset High School and spent most of his life in Massachusetts, moving to Epsom 6 years ago.

Mr. Tumey had been employed as an auto mechanic for several Dodge dealerships and auto parts stores. After his retirement, Phil continued to work part time for Auto Parts International as a delivery driver.

Proud of his military service, he spent 23 years with the Massachusetts National Guard 1058th Transport Unit out of Hingham, MA and was called to active duty in Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm. He was a member of the Elwood O. Wells American Legion Post in Epsom.

He was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Rockland, MA and the New Rye Union Congregational Church in Epsom. In addition he had volunteered with various community activities, including the Rochester Soup Kitchen and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He enjoyed traveling and, above all, being with his family.

Members of his family include his wife of 46 years, Judith N. (Mowll) Tumey of Epsom; a son, Glen Tumey of Taunton, MA; 3 daughters, Beth Sage of Rockland, MA, Heather Bullard and her husband David of Marshfield, MA, and Kirsten Guerrero and her husband Arturo of Rockland, MA; 11 grandchildren, Christie Tumey and her fianc Ryan Layton, Jenna, Kyle, Colin, Kelley, Ramona, and Derrik Sage, Tristan and Griffith Bullard, and Lydia and Garritt Guerrero; 2 sisters, Jane Lindsey of Rockland, MA and Elizabeth Blair of Cohasset, MA; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to New Rye Union Congregational Church, PO Box 217, Epsom, NH 03234.

Cemetery: Burial with military honors will take place at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at 2:30 PM.

Visitation: Calling hours are at the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Hwy, Epsom on Monday from 7-9 PM.

Service: Services at the New Rye Union Congregational Church will take place Tuesday at 11 AM, immediately followed by a collation at the church.
