SANBORNVILLE- Mr. Paul F. Thiem, Sr., 104, of Sanbornville, passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2022 after a period of declining health.
Born in Manchester, he was the son of the late Charles and Alice (Desrochers) Thiem. He was raised and educated in Manchester and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School Class of 1935. He later attended Santa Maria University, where he studied labor law and Spanish.
Paul enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and proudly served his country during World War II. He was an armament and pyrotechnical instructor for the USAAF, specializing on B-24s at Walla Walla. He was a graduate of the Harlingen, TX Gunnery School, earning the sharpshooter's medal and the good conduct medal.
Following his military service, Paul began his shoe manufacturing career at J.F. McElwain Co. and later matriculated to United Shoe Corp., International Shoe Corp. and Sportwelt Shoe Co., where he served as plant manager. He also worked for Wilson Shoe Co., Hubbard Shoe Co., H & H Brown Shoe Co., the Robert Hart Shoe Co. and lastly, the Lowell Shoe Co. Throughout this long career, he traveled the world extensively as a shoe manufacturing consultant.
Paul was a life member of the 210 Shoe Foundation and the New England Shoe Foreman & Superintendent Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post #28 and in 1990, was elected to the Hooksett School Board, serving three terms. He and his wife moved to Florida in 1994, where they resided for many years before returning to New Hampshire to be closer to family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine R. (Gagne) Thiem and his sons, Paul F. Thiem, Jr. and Bernard Joseph Thiem.
He is survived by two daughters: Beverly Stover of Bullhead City, AZ and Carol Kelley of Tomball, TX; his stepchildren: Clovis J. Boulet, Jr. of Pembroke, Vernon Boulet of Candia, Wyatt Boulet of Winthrop, ME, Lorne Boulet of Chichester and Ellen Bubier of Athens, ME; as well as his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
