PITTSFIELD – Paul A. Nickerson, 84, a longtime resident of Pittsfield, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born on July 5, 1941, in Lynbrook, NY, he was the son of the late Austin and Grace (Gardner) Nickerson.
He was the kind of man who would roll up his sleeves and dive into whatever needed to be done, his dedication and hard work evident in every task he undertook. Whether it was three decades of driving and delivering for Weeks/Hood Dairy, two decades of drilling artisan wells all over New England for David Ford Well Company, or finding solutions to problems at home or in his community, Paul brought a wealth of practical experience to every endeavor. He was truly a man of all trades. If you knew Paul, you knew that he was either fixing something, building something or growing fruits and Vegetables to provide for his family. And if you've ever had the pleasure of running into Paul in town, you could always count on an interesting conversation about something he was passionate about. Paul was truly "Old School," frugal, and believed in the value of hard work and living within his means. His clothes, often Weeks or Hood Dairy shirts and jackets, were worn until they could no longer be used, reflecting his aversion to waste.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Jacob Nickerson and step-grandson, Jake Martel.
Members of his family include his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Cummings) Nickerson; children, Tammy Ferraro and her husband, Tim, Teresa Palmer and her husband, Scott, Paula Martel and her husband, Jeff, John Nickerson and his wife, Deborah, Carol Swan and her husband, Dale and Christine Limoges and her husband, Bill Peterson; grandchildren, Alyssa Ferraro, Ashley Malcom (Steve), Courtney Morrison (Marcus), Sam Case ( Melanie), Cody Driscoll (Emily) and Jesse Driscoll, Brittany Wellwood (Matthew), Chamonix Brandt (Tanner), Lillian, Laura and Eric Martin; step-grandchildren, Michael Sweet (Katie), Sam Martel and Nicole Osborne; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Ryker Malcom, Mason Morrison, May Case, Aiden, Caroline and Harper Wellwood, Emily Sweet, Delilah Nickerson, Navy, Woods Solum, and Lulu Brandt, Joseph Martin; brothers, David and Peter Nickerson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
