PEMBROKE- Pastor Michael J. Matthews, 70, of Pembroke, went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2022 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Concord after a period of declining health.
Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Gerard and Charlotte (Boisvert) Matthews. He was raised and educated in Newton, MA and Upton, MA. Michael attended and graduated from the Eastern Nazarene College in Wollaston, MA, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree.
Pastor Michael began his ministry at the North Street Church of the Nazarene in Hingham, MA and later served congregations in Cromwell, CT and Newport, VT. After a short sabbatical, he served on an interim basis in Walpole, MA before returning to Hingham before his retirement.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Hingham and was a former Police Chaplain for the Cromwell Police Department. He was also an avid reader.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Jim Matthews and Gerry Matthews.
Pastor Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Naomi R. (Stewart) Matthews; his son, Nicholas Matthews of Nashua; his brother, Daniel Matthews of Stuart, FL; and his three sisters, Charlotte McMahon of Auburn, MA Mary Claire Quine of Bethel, CT and Anne Marie McCarthy of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by a close family friend, Aurora Rimel as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, March 19th at 11 A.M. in the New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, 33 Staniels Rd. in Loudon.
