Obituary

NOKOMIS, FL- Michael A. "Mike" Grunzweig, Sr., 79, of Nokomis, FL, passed away after a short but brave battle with Mesothelioma. His family was by his side at his daughter's house in Pelham, NH. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia A. "Ginny" (Connors) Grunzweig. Born on January 13,1944 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Mike was the youngest child of the late Peter A. and Elizabeth (Jellinick) Grunzweig. Mike was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School Class of 1962 where he was a member of the varsity golf team. Upon graduation, Mike served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise CVN65 from 1962-1964. Following his discharge from the Navy, Mike married Ginny on September 12,1964 and they began their life together. He owned and operated Big Mike's Painting for several years in Oregon before relocating back to Massachusetts, where he worked for twenty-five years at the F.E. Kenney Painting Company of Woburn. Mike and Ginny retired to Nokomis in 2006 to escape the cold New England winters. In retirement, he worked part time at the local Ace hardware store, Kiles. It seems Mike had not been feeling well much longer than he let on. He worked up until the day before he was admitted to the hospital. To say he was tough is an understatement. He enjoyed watching tv, dinners out with his son and trips back to New England to see his family. He loved cuddling with his dog, Toby who was by his side for 14 years. Mike was a hard worker, an unconditional father and a true gentleman. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Our hearts are heavy with grief. Mike is survived by his four children, Michael A. Grunzweig, Jr. of Nokomis, FL, Deborah B. Ryan and her husband, Robert of Pelham, NH, Beth-Anne Grunzweig of Londonderry, NH and Kristin E. Grunzweig and her significant other, Stephen Murdoch of Monson, MA; five grandchildren, Mareah Patalano and her husband, Ryan, Michael A. Grunzweig,III, Kelly and Robert Ryan and Jaymison Griesmer; two great grandchildren, Cole and Atley Patalano; one sister, Elizabeth Ditrapano; and two sister-in-laws, Sally Grunzweig and Shirley Sardella. He was known as Uncle Fluffy to many loving nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his three sisters, Barbara, Margaret and Suzanne as well as his brother, Peter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street, Reading, MA.
