Mary Ann Averka, 84, of Chichester, NH passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, with her daughter by her side. Mary Ann was born on February 21, 1940 in Boston, MA to the late Stephen and Mary (Grigas) Russell.
After making her home in Deerfield, NH with her young family, she became a transcriptionist for the NH House of Representatives. Later in life, she shared ownership of Town Pump Antiques and was renowned for her knowledge in railroad paraphernalia and civil war smalls. She was known to love a good mystery novel, playing cards, and of course, a good Manhattan. But most of all, she was known for her charm and playfulness, her incredible wit, her fierce independence, and the ability to laugh in the darkest of hours. Mary Ann's brightness shined on many, and she will be deeply missed.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter: Diana P. Dones and her husband Allen B. Dones; and her sister: Joan P. Rossi and her husband Andrew Rossi. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter: Janine M. Averka; her son: Francis E. Averka Jr.; and her dearest companions: Robert Flagg and William Robinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road in Concord at 10:30am. Interment will be held May 29th, 2025 at 11:00am at Old Center Cemetery in Deerfield, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved children. Roan Family Funeral Home – Still Oaks Chapel in Epsom is assisting the family with arrangements.
