Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Teravainen of Hooksett, NH passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2023 following an extended period of chronic medical issues. In her final days, she was surrounded by her family and music that were the cornerstone of Peggy's life. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Tom and Pauline Kirk. She was the eldest of six children and Peggy received her grammar and high school education in West Hempstead, NY, followed by a Bachelor of Music degree from Misericordia University. Her love of music was expressed in several ways and her repertoire included playing the guitar, keyboard, violin, and singing. She volunteered many hours in singing at variety of show performances with the Hooksett Entertainers at nursing homes, fraternal organizations, and hospitals. These activities were complemented with her position as Holy Rosary Religious Education Director for several years and included directing choir. Peggy's devotion to community affairs involved Hooksett Youth Athletics, Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts and volunteering at Hooksett Elections and town events. The civic aspect of her life culminated in being a member of the Hookset School Board for 9 years. Peggy earned a Masters Degree in Social Services from Springfield College and that path led to working for several non-profit agencies as a benefits specialist coordinator assisting elderly and disabled clients. On a private basis, she eagerly helped family and friends on issues concerning governmental and social benefit eligibility. Her travels took her to many states, several European countries, and many family vacation ocean cruises. Of course, this included trips to Ireland as Peggy was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage. Peggy's endless love is evident in 48 years of marriage to her husband, Dennis, and this union produced two sons and a daughter; Dennis and Michelle Teravainen, Thomas and Britt Teravainen, and Megan Teravainen. Peggy ("Mimi") is also survived by four grandchildren, Greta, Matilda "Tilly", August "Gus", and Martha Jayne "MJ" who provided joy, laughter, pride, and endless hugs to Peggy. Peggy's surviving siblings and their respective spouses are: Debbie and Willie Mendoza, Lorraine and Howard Domitz, Terrance and Gabby Kirk, Timothy Kirk and Bruce Martinelli, and Tom and Claudia Kirk. There are no calling hours and her family will gather privately for Peggy. At a later date, there will be a commemoration of life celebrating the memories of her generosity, compassion, kindness, and joy that she brought to many. The family extends heartfelt thanks for the hospice care from the Manchester Visiting Nurse Association, especially, Nurse Connie and Health Aide Sylvie. In lieu of flowers, Peggy requests donations in her name to the Hooksett Library, Hooksett Historical Society, or any specific entity of personal choice. Assisting the family with arrangements is The Roan Family Funeral Home of Pembroke. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.roanfamilyfuneral.com
