Obituary

BOSCAWEN- Mr. Larry E. "Butch" Cottrell, 72, of Boscawen, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 22, 2025. Born in Exeter, Butch was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Eleanor H. (Demeritt) Cottrell. He was raised in Raymond, NH and was a graduate of Raymond High School. Butch's hobbies and inner circle were built around his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed being an avid motorcycle rider and snowmobiler and spent many years on the ballfield and days on the green. He loved riding motorcycles and sleds with his daughter, Bethany and all of their friends that became family. He was a member of the Getaway Club in Manchester. Always leading a ride, whether through Pittsburg, somewhere else in NH or South Dakota, he could be heard turning to his group and saying "ok – your turn to lead us back." It could be said he spent more time on a baseball or softball field than he did anywhere else. From playing little league, to travel softball, and then one pitch to endless hours of watching and sideline coaching those he loved. He loved the game of golf, whether outside or Tiger Woods on the PS2, and would promise he wasn't any good so others would join him. Whether he was Larry or Butch to you, his stories and laugh were infectious, always drawing others in. He loved hard and made sure those around him knew he was always a phone call away. Even if it was just to get rid of the hiccups (since only he knew the trick for getting rid of them). Butch is survived by his daughter, Bethany Cottrell and her husband, Joe Costanzo of Andover, NH, as well as his granddaughter, Abbi. In addition, he is survived by those who considered him their 2nd Dad and a tribe of friends who were his family. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Sunday May 18th at the Franklin VFW – a Memorial Motorcycle Ride at 11am followed by a luncheon back at the VFW at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brigid's House of Hope (www.brigidshouseofhope.org) – an agency that Bethany founded and that Butchie would often share how so incredibly proud he was of the time, passion, love and effort that she put into Brigid's House, always supporting those around her who needed support. Assisting the family with arrangements is The Roan Family Funeral Home of Pembroke. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.roanfamilyfuneral.com.
