PITTSFIELD - Kevin "Buck" Buchanan, 61, of Pittsfield passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Concord Hospital.
Born on November 12, 1961 in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Shirley (Beaulieu) Buchanan,
Buck was raised and educated in Fall River. He attended Diman Regional Technical Vocational High School, but obtained his diploma from Escondito High School in Escondito, CA after enlisting in the US Marine Corps. He served 4 years in the US Marine Corp as a Tank Gunner. While in the Marines, and stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he also trained and earned his second degree black belt in Shorin Ryu Kenbukan Karate. He later went on to serve 4 years in the US Coast Guard, as a Fire Control Technician, where he was also a Plankowner on the USCGC Tahoma.
After moving to NH in 1989, he received an Associates Degree from NHTI and a Bachelors Degree from UMASS Lowell in Electronic Engineering Technology. He worked with various companies, including 16 years at AgaMatrix Inc. out of Salem as a Senior Engineer-Hardware Design Team Lead and a total of 5 years at BAE Systems, Inc, this last year out of Manchester, as a Principal Hardware Engineer. He also had his own business: Buchanan Embedded Technology, where he did different types of engineering consulting and contract circuit board design work.
Buck was a member of the IEEE Microwave Theory Technology Society, and in his free time he enjoyed working on his many electronic projects. A past member of the Contoocook Valley Radio Club, he also was a HAM radio enthusiast. Above all else, he liked to spend time with family and was the mastermind of many DIY home projects, a "Jack-of-all-trades".
Members of his family include his wife of 35 years, Michele "Mickey" (St. Amour) Buchanan; 3 children, Sarah Lyons and her husband, Shawn of Maine; Emily Duclos and her husband, Keith of Tilton and Matthew Buchanan and his significant other, Lucia DeFelice of Nashua. One granddaughter, Gwendolyn Lyons; A sister, Susan Chouinard; brother, Gerald Buchanan and nephews, Ian and Nathan Buchanan, all of Fall River, MA
A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Buck's honor to: The NH Chapter of NE First Robotics.
