Obituary

Barnstead – John Witham, 76, of Barnstead, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord Surrounded by his family. Born on January 20, 1948, in Laconia, he was the son of the late Alden and Dorothy (Thomas) Witham. John grew up in Gilmanton and lived in Pittsfield for 20 years before moving to Barnstead in 2000, he was educated in the local schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard during Vietnam. After John's honorable discharge from the USCG he started his own construction business, working as a contractor for over 40 years until his retirement in 2019 at the age of 71. He never saw what he did as work because he had such a passion for it. To his family John was known for his big heart, showing support and love for his family and friends. He was a natural born grandpa, enjoyed his tractors, watching the sun set behind the mountains from his front porch, and he was never one to pass up an episode of the 3 Stooges. He loved a good laugh and never passed up a chance to say hello to a dog. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Jane Provencal. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Geddes) Witham, sons, Jason Witham and Alden Witham and his wife Ellie, daughters, Jennifer Roff and her husband Brian, Jennifer Pickard and her husband William and Heidi Carignan and her husband Denis, siblings, Dorothy Bowler, JoAnn Holbrook, Cindy Donley, Allan, Alden, Jr., Kenneth and Peter Witham, six grandchildren, Rachel and Patrick Witham, Florence and Duncan Roff, Cassidy Kearns and Emily Carignan, one great grandson, William as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of John's Life will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 1PM at the Gilmanton Community Church, 497 Province Road, Gilmanton. A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the Granite VNA Hospice Staff for the kindness shown to John in his last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord. The Roan Family Funeral Home – Still Oaks Chapel in Epsom is assisting the family with arrangements.
