WARNER - John V. Brannon, Jr., 86, of Warner, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Presidential Oaks in Concord following a period of declining health.
Born on April 24, 1935 in Fort Worth, TX, he was the son of the late John V. and Anna Belle (Marvel) Brannon. He grew up there, in a home filled with Christian Faith where participating in regular church services was a major part of his life. He attended Poly Tech High School and graduated in 1957. After high school he went on a missions trip to Jamaica with the Baptist Student Union (BSU) for the Summer. He then attended Baylor University where he continued to be heavily involved with the BSU.
Many of his favorite memories, the basis for wonderful stories, were from serving as counselor at the Ridgecrest Boys Camp in North Carolina where he spent four Summers from his Sophomore year to after graduation. The BSU program then sent him to minister in Oregon for a year. He came back to Dallas, Texas, and attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary was ordained as a minister and then the following year served, through the BSU program, in Wisconsin.
John came from a long line of educators and was a marvelous teacher. His teaching career began with the YMCA in Fort Worth, TX where he ran the Swimming Program training many young people in the sport of aquatics. He worked for many years as a Professor of Psychology, Sociology and Statistics at Alvin Community College in Alvin, TX and during this time also taught prisoners in the Texas Prison System. He was a lover of classical music and fine art and after retirement volunteered for the Arlington, Texas Public School District as Art Docent educating many children and giving an appreciation and love of fine art. He later transplanted to New Hampshire to be closer to family. He soon became a beloved Tour Guide and Volunteer with the NH Indian Museum and Nature Discovery Center in Warner. He also volunteered in the Kearsarge Regional High School night school program. He enjoyed road trips, having visited every state in the Union. He also enjoyed storytelling, camping with his family and devoured most any book he could get his hands on.
He is survived by his children, Angela Brannon Tarleton and her husband Kevin of Sutton, NH, Michelle Gosnell and her husband Andy of Sutton, NH, sister, Patricia Porter of Palm Springs, CA, four grandchildren, Alyssa Tarleton, Jonmichael Tarleton and his wife Vayda, Brannon Cook, Brycen Cook, one great grandson, Beau Cook. step granddaughter Kaitlyn Barbour and husband Jonathan, and a niece, Sharee Thomas.
