Obituary

Concord – Jeannine M. (Thibeault) Smith, formerly Sr. Mary Laboure, 93, of Concord, NH died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord. Born in Lincoln, NH, she was the daughter of the late George and Belzemire (Fillion) Thibeault. Jeannine was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Mt. St. Mary College in Hooksett, NH. She continued post-graduate courses at Keene State College, NH, University of Orono, ME and University of Central Florida, FL. During the years 1949-1979, Jeannine was a Sister of Mercy and taught in parochial schools in Manchester, Concord, Berlin, Lebanon and one year in her hometown of Lincoln. Her career as a nun was happy but hampered by ill health, necessitating a change of lifestyle and climate. Jeannine moved to Florida in 1979, where she taught in Mascotte, Orlando and Reddick. After her retirement in 1996, Jeannine was a resident in Jacksonville, Lehigh Acres, and Tampa, FL. Having spent thirty-three years in Florida and three years in Colorado, Jeannine came back to her home state and took up residence in Concord. Jeannine was a member of the Teachers Association professionally, and a member of the Red Hat Society for fun. In her lifetime, she served as teacher, principal, bank teller, secretary, committee chairperson and RCV chapel sacristan. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Gretchen Smith of Daytona Beach, FL; siblings, Rita Landry of Lincoln, NH, Richard Thibeault of Colorado Springs, CO, and Donald Gary Thibeault of Center Harbor, NH; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jeannine was predeceased by her brothers, Henry, Paul and Armand Thibeault; and her sister, Helen Gagnon. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:30AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 180 Loudon Road, Concord, NH 03301. Jeannine will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Lincoln, NH at a later date. The Roan Family Funeral Home in Pembroke is assisting the family with arrangements.
