Obituary

ALLENSTOWN – Janet Rita (Kodzis) Boyden, 77, of Allenstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Presidential Oaks Nursing Home, after a brief illness.

She was born on November 22, 1948, in Boston, MA, daughter of the late Brony N. Kodzis and Rita A. (Scarlata) Smigielski. Janet was the beloved wife of Raymond F. Boyden, who predeceased her in 2011. Their life together was filled with love, friendship, and many shared interests, including their love of bowling.

Janet was raised in Somerville, MA, and graduated from Girls’ Latin School in Roxbury, MA. She worked for the Town of Chester for more than 20 years. Janet and Ray shared a special love of bowling and spent many years together both on and off the lanes. She was a bowling coach at Pinkerton Academy for many years, alongside Ray, and loved participating in leagues and tournaments. She also held many positions with the NH State USBC with both the youth and adult programs. Bowling was much more than a pastime for Janet; it was something she and Ray shared, and she treasured the friendships and memories they made through the sport.

In her early years, Janet was very involved with horses. She had her own horse, Bright Hope Wells, and enjoyed horse showing and trail riding. She also loved crafting, including beading, painting, and other hands-on fine crafts. Janet took great joy in creating things for others and giving her handmade creations as gifts. She was a gift giver in every sense of the word and was known for taking as much care in wrapping a gift as she did in choosing it.

Janet cherished time spent with her family and friends. She was a selfless and caring person who consistently put the needs of those she loved before her own. She was sociable, loved being involved, and always wanted to find a way to help or make things better. Those who knew Janet will remember her generous heart, her thoughtfulness, and the genuine care she showed to the people around her.

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her brothers, William P. Kodzis, Richard E. Kodzis, and Warren M. Kodzis.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Boyden and her wife, Stacy, of Pembroke; Jennifer’s in-laws, Sue Seidner and her husband, Gary, of Pembroke; and her dear and beloved friends at Hillsbrook Village.

A calling hour will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Roan Family Funeral Home, 167 Main Street, Pembroke. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Great Hill Cemetery, Sandown Road, Chester.
