AMHERST, NH- Helen Mae (Murray) MacDonald, formerly of Norridgewock, ME, passed away peacefully, at home, on August 20, 2024 at the age of 77 in Amherst, NH after a brief illness.
Born on May 18, 1947 at Augusta General Hospital in Maine, to Inez Mae (Willette) Murray and Harold Linwood Murray, Helen grew up in Skowhegan, ME, where she attended grammar and high school, and worked in her parents' restaurant, "Murray's Home Lunch."
Helen would later move from central to northern Maine, where she would once again work in the restaurant industry, with her father, at Sperry's Restaurant in Ashland. She also worked in potato services, planting and harvesting potatoes, and in area shoe shops.
In 1987 Helen moved to Jaffrey, NH. She worked at Millipore Corporation (now MilliporeSigma) in the Molding Department, achieving 21 out of 22 years of perfect attendance before retiring in 2009. She then moved to Norridgewock, ME where she acquired her loyal Maine Coon Cat, Pandora, whom she doted on.
With a keen eye for valuable antiques, she spent many weekends collecting treasures. She was creative and liked to decorate and she had great attention for detail and knowing how to place things just so. She loved flowers and foraging in the woods, in the fall, for berries and greenery.
Helen loved spending time with her children, family, and friends. She especially enjoyed family birthday get-togethers for tacos with her siblings, nieces and nephews, and Thanksgivings with her children and friends. Birthday celebrations in New Hampshire with her daughter lasted a week and consisted of shopping, good food, great wine, belly laughing, singing, dancing and telling stories.
Always a true patriot, Helen was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW of Ashland, ME, and a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.
Helen is survived by her daughters Angela Mae (Chick) and husband John Connell, III of Amherst, NH; Renee Murray (Chick) and husband David Sonia of Hampden, ME; son Michael Douglas MacDonald of Chelsea, ME; her sisters Nancy and husband Larry Choate of Sidney, ME; Janice and husband Shawn Larkin of East Madison, ME; Joan and husband Terry Corson of Skowhegan, ME; and Kathy Repyak of Laconia, NH; brother Harold James Murray of Waterville, ME; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; an aunt Karline Cosgrave of Latham, NY, along with several special nieces and nephews (to them, she was always the "cool" aunt); in addition to cousins, special friends, and her beloved cat, Pandora.
She is predeceased by her parents Inez and Harold Murray.
