CENTER BARNSTEAD - Harold O. Huckaby, of Center Barnstead, passed away surrounded by his family following a courageous and complicated battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Harold was born on July 11, 1944 in Greensboro, NC. After a successful career as a chef in New York City and at the urging of his wife Cynthia, the couple relocated their young family to New Hampshire and opened The Crystal Quail restaurant in Center Barnstead. The Crystal Quail rose to national fame as one of the first farm-to-table restaurants, serving a locally-sourced and sophisticated French menu to their customers for thirty-eight years in the dining room of their home, a restored 18th century farmhouse. Harold also had a love for playing the guitar and working on his woodworking projects. Harold is survived by his wife Cynthia, his son Basil, his daughters Solange and Eugenia, and four grandchildren. There are no services scheduled at this time.
