CHICHESTER – Gretchen (MacDonald) Morse passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Harris Hill Center in Concord, NH. Gretchen was 86 years old, born in Manchester, NH. She spent her childhood in Auburn, her early married life and raising her family in Pembroke, and finally most recently residing in Chichester. Gretchen retired from Chubb Group of Insurance Companies but also spent many years helping out at the family shop, Haggett’s Marine, during the busy seasons. Gretchen was a proud alumnus of Manchester Central class of 1957 and greatly enjoyed regular luncheons with her fellow graduates. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in recent years; she never let that slow her down.
Gretchen was also a volunteer at the Chichester Library covering some regular hours and putting hard work into the book sales which raised money to support the library.
Gretchen and her husband of 64 years, the late David Morse, raised their family of two girls in Pembroke. Gretchen did all the mom things like being a 4H leader, active in church and the women’s club, all the while working full time.
Gretchen is survived by her sister, Debbie Miller and husband, Jim; her daughters, Joanne Morse and Linda Ordway and husband, Bruce; her two grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Morse; her parents, Donald and Charlotte (Hunkins) MacDonald; and her sister, Heather Pries and husband, Walt.
There are no services at this time. Interment at Great Hill Cemetery in Chester will be held at a future date. Donations may be made in her name to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Give.MichaelJFox.org.
