Pittsburg – Gary Clayton Bedell, 88, of Pittsburg, NH, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 27, 1936, in Lancaster, NH he was the son of the late Clayton Otto Bedell and Eleanor G. (Pierce) Tomashpol.
Gary enlisted in the US Navy shortly after high school, serving from 1956 – 1960; he was honored to have served his country. Gary was the proud owner of Spruce Cone Cabins and Campground in Pittsburg for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors. Gary especially enjoyed feeding the deer, ducks and turkeys and watching birds. He loved to travel, with his most memorable trips being to Africa, Alaska and Egypt. Gary will be remembered as a hardworking individual who touched the lives of many people.
In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris Y. (Cameron) Bedell; granddaughter, Becky Twitchell; great granddaughter, Anna Lee Twitchell; and sisters, Sandra Stanley and Judith Mitchell.
Gary is survived by his children, Dawn Foss of Largo, FL, Heidi Smith and her husband, Jason of Pittsburg, NH, Penny Bedell of Largo, FL and Gary Bedell and his wife, Erin of Pascoag, RI; grandchildren, Derek Foss, Brianne Carrier, Kenneth Twitchell and his wife, Kirsten, Connor Smith, Devan Carson, Ryan Carson, Cassandra Acevedo and her husband, Matthew, Cameron Bedell and Alison Bedell; 18 great grandchildren; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Gary was lovingly cared for by so many, including his daughters, Heidi Smith and Penny Bedell. His caregivers were a special part of his life, and he enjoyed the hikes and road trips they shared together. Gary's family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to those who cared for him during his final years, specifically, Rose, Linda, Derek, Sherry and Cindi.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 11:00AM at Floral Park Cemetery, 30 Barnstead Road, Pittsfield NH 03263 where Gary will be laid to rest with his wife.
