Staff Sgt Edward Benning Tierney, 77, of Allenstown, passed away after a long illness at home surrounded by family on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
He was born in Manchester, the son of Wilfred and Ruth (Powers) Tierney. He attended Central high School in Manchester and later served in the United States Marine Corps, active service from 1965-1973, serving in the Vietnam War as a tank commander. He later served as a Marine Guard at the Portsmouth Naval Prison in Kittery, ME until his retirement from the Corps.
Ed's favorite role was being a Dad. He loved hunting, boating, camping and fishing, especially for stripers at Fort Foster every year. He was avid reader of history. Ed was very involved with the American Legion, the VFW and the DAV.
He worked for Impco in Nashua as a welder and later an orbital welder with G.E. Aerospace until he had a stroke in 1985. As part of his rehabilitation, he attended NHTI for a year.
Ed is survived by his wife, Catherine (Lord) Tierney, and his children, Thomas, Chasity, Bambi and Jennifer all of NH. Four grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren, brothers, James and Douglas Tierney and a sister, Patricia Tierney, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Ed was predeceased by brothers, Gerald, Leonard and Benning Tierney and a sister, Ruth Ellen Tierney.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 4PM-6PM at the Roan Family Funeral Home, 167 Main Street, Pembroke. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2PM in Holbrook Cemetery, Candia.
