Obituary

Plymouth – Donna Mae (Cusano) Birch, 86, of Plymouth, NH and Zephyrhills, FL; passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025 in Manchester, NH surrounded by family. Donna was born on October 23, 1938, in Woodsville, NH; the daughter of the late Philip D. Cusano and Amy E. (Learned) Laveau. Donna was educated in the local schools and went on to receive her degree from Pierce Business College. She proudly worked for many years as the secretary at Epsom Central School, where her kindness and compassion made her beloved by students, teachers, and family alike; Epsom was where she raised her family and formed many lifelong friendships. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen and supported – traits she carried into every chapter of her life. Before retiring, she also served as the Activities Director at McKerley Nursing Home in Concord. Donna cherished her winters in Florida, where she founded and ran the Donna Birch Library in her community. She was an American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 112 charter member in Epsom and supported veterans and service members and their families throughout her life. Donna enjoyed playing scrabble, the piano, and relaxing afternoons with a jigsaw puzzle or a crossword. She also loved going to yard sales and spending sunny days in the pool. Most of all, she treasured her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her first husband, Norman Birch, who passed in 2004, as well as her brother, John Cusano, daughter-in-law, Susan Birch, and son-in-law, Richard Esposito. Donna was blessed to find love a second time and is survived by her husband, Philip Gatz of Plymouth, with whom she shared 15 wonderful years of marriage. Donna is also survived by her children, Carleton Birch and his wife Christina, Brenda Butterfield, Deborah Esposito, Michael Birch, and Karen LaMore and her husband Joe; grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Amy, Luke, Seth, Reanna, Bryan, Devon, Jazlynn-Mae and Kyanna-Marie; great grandchildren, Jason, Lincoln, Jaxon and Reina – each of whom she adored and encouraged with unconditional love. She is also survived by her half-siblings, Mary-Ellen, Dan, Alicia, Tom, Johnny, and Laurie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family on Philip's side. Donna touched many lives, and those lucky enough to know her felt the depth of her kindness and her gentle strength. A visitation with refreshments will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10AM–11:30AM at the Roan Family Funeral Home – Still Oaks Chapel, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom.
