PITTSFIELD – Donald Warren Stevens, 91, a longtime resident of Pittsfield, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Concord Hospital following a period of declining health. Don was born in Pittsfield on October 11, 1933, son of the late Warren Gilmon and Bessie L. (Maloon) Stevens. The family lived in Gossville, NH until moving to Pittsfield in 1940 where except for his time in the Navy, he lived for the rest of his life. He attended school in Epsom and Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield High Class of 1951. Don was always a hard worker starting in his teen years and even as he got older, he would pick corn for the local canning factory. In high school he had part-time work in the A&P as well as ushering at the Scenic Theater. Following high school, he continued his work with the A&P until it closed. He worked for several years as a mechanic with C. Langdon Kenney and later for Sanel Auto Parts as a delivery driver and clerk until his retirement at the age of 75. His son convinced him to join the Pittsfield Fire Department, and he loved every minute of it. He was a firefighter/EMT for many years and reached the rank of Lieutenant. Don was a self-taught carpenter, electrician and plumber, he enjoyed learning new trades including wood working. He is survived by his children, Douglas Stevens and his wife Trisha of Derry, Lorinda Wisdom of FL, his sister, Alfreda Stevens of Pittsfield, grandchildren, Benjamin D. Stevens of Manchester, Stephanie Ouellette and her husband Mat of Manchester, two step granddaughters, Samantha of ME and Jayme of Derry as well as several cousins.
