MANCHESTER - Donald D. Bell, Sr., 93, of Manchester, passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Born to Leo and Sonia Bell on September 19, 1932 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Donald spent most of his life in Manchester, where he made an everlasting impact on his community and all those he met.
Donald was a dedicated maintenance technician for Catholic Medical Center, where he worked for an impressive 35 years. He was so passionate about his job and caring for the hospital's operations that he retired three times before finally stepping away. His dedication to his work was rivaled only by his love for his family, the U.S. Navy, and his favorite outdoor activities. Donald was an avid member of the Pointer Fish and Game Club of Bedford for many years and enjoyed any chance he got to explore the great outdoors. He loved camping with his wife and four children, hunting, and fishing. He could fix anything and loved to tinker with cars. His adventurous spirit was infectious, inspiring those around him to seek joy and excitement in the world around them.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, Leo and Andrew Bell; grandson, Jonathan Charbonneau and son-in-law, Roger Charbonneau.
Donald is survived by his wife of 71 years, Loretta Bell; children, Donna (Bell) Charbonneau, Donald Bell, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, Denise Rose and her husband, Richard and Dennis Bell and his wife, Tracy; sisters, Jeanne Lemire and Jackie Kierstead and 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
A chapel service with Military Honors will take place at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 DW Hwy, Boscawen on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 9AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Elliot VNA Hospice, 1070 Holt Ave, Suite 1400, Manchester, NH 03109.
