Obituary

CHICHESTER – Dale H. Brown, 102, of Chichester formerly of Mechanicville, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, NH. Born in Oak Grove, MO on April 30, 1922, the son of Bruce and Ursula (Wild) Brown. Dale was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1942, and then became an instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department there. He was a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II and served on the USS Pikeville off the west coast of California. After his service, Dale worked as a mechanical engineer from 1950 to 1985 in the Research and Development area of General Electric in Schenectady, NY. He very much enjoyed sailing his lightning sailboat on Galway Lake and teaching many young sailors the art of the wind around the lake, he also played handball and was an avid skier to the age of 95. Besides his parents, Dale was predeceased by his first wife, Janet (Ryder) Brown; second wife, Joan (Frappier) Brown; his brother, Bruce Brown, sister Maidee Kerr and nephew, Bruce Kerr. Members of his family include his son, Mark Brown of Billings, Montana; daughter, Sue Merrill and husband, Frank of Chichester; grandchildren, Bradley Merrill and wife, Kristin and Kara Girard and husband, Cory; 8 great-grandchildren – Jacob, Alyvia, Kassidy, Karleigh, Benjamin, Collin, Conor and Levi ; nieces, Maidee Spencer and Jeanne Bayer and step-sons, John and Steven Borichevsky. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 30, at the Merrill Barn, from 3pm to 6pm. Interment will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY at the convenience of the family next Spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in honor of Dale to: Galway Lake Sailing Club, c/o Chet Ciembroniewicz, 815 Sacandaga Road, Scotia, NY 12302 or the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, NH.
