DEERFIELD- Charles David Snell, affectionately known to all as Charlie, passed peacefully at the age of 74 on May 9, 2026, at his home in Deerfield, NH, surrounded by the love of his family.
Charlie was born on March 29, 1952, in Leominster, MA, the son of the late Charles H. Snell and Doris Reynolds. He carried a strong work ethic and pride in craftsmanship throughout his life. A welder by trade for his entire working career, Charlie took great pride in his accomplishments, most notably his 32 years as an aircraft welder at General Electric in Hooksett, NH. His work was precise and demanding, qualities that reflected the way he lived his life.
Charlie was the beloved husband of Elaine Snell, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage filled with devotion, outdoor adventure, and unwavering love. Together, they built a family that was his greatest pride. In 1975, they relocated to Raymond, NH, to raise their family, and later built their forever home in Deerfield. Elaine continues to reside there and remained the love of his life in every sense of the word.
Those who knew Charlie best remember him as a man full of life, presence, determination, dedication, and passion, especially for the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were lifelong pursuits, reflected in his many trophies and the countless stories he enjoyed sharing. As much as he loved recounting his outdoor experiences, nothing brought him greater joy than speaking about his wife, children, and grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud.
A Christian man, Charlie's faith deepened in his later years and became a guiding force in his life. His devotion carried him through multiple significant health challenges stemming from his courageous fight against cancer, providing him with strength, peace, and hope, and offering comfort to those around him.
Charlie was the proud father of three children: Jeffrey Snell of Epsom, NH; Melissa Lemire of Weare, NH; and Kimberly Golden of Berlin, NH. Jeffrey is the father of Rachel Snell of Concord, NH, and Devon Snell of Weare, NH. Melissa is married to Scott Lemire, and together they are the parents of Eli Lemire and Bree Lemire. Kimberly is married to Patrick Golden, and together they are the parents of Chloe Golden and Brooke Golden. Charlie was also a proud great grandfather to Theodore Snell and Eleanor Snell, children of Devon and his wife, Liz Snell, of Weare, NH. He found great joy in the growing generations of his family. In addition to his wife and descendants, Charlie is survived by his sisters, Sandra Snell and Barbara Jablonski, both of Massachusetts, as well as his brothers and sisters in law, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Charlie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for the outdoors, his steadfast faith, and most importantly, his devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Granite State VNA Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support they provided to Charlie and Elaine during this time.
