PEMBROKE - Catherine J. Dowling, 90, of Pembroke passed away at her home on Saturday, September 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Manchester, NH on September 6, 1933, the daughter of George and Rena (Smith) Lappas. Catherine "Kay" was loving, generous, kind, and she had a playful sense of humor and a zest for adventure. She enjoyed reading, researching, learning, traveling, cooking, playing mah-jongg, practicing tai chi, swimming, and sharing meals with family and friends. Whatever she did, she was always thinking of others. Surrounded by books and young people, Kay loved her work as a Librarian Assistant at Pembroke Academy. She was immensely proud of her family. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Laurence H. Dowling. Members of her family include her sons, Michael Brien and wife, Lisa and David Brien and wife, Karen; daughters, Jean Rodgers and husband Scott, Susan Ann Brien Klein, and Christine Brien; stepson Jim Dowling; and grandchildren, Curtis and Ellen Rodgers, Tia Lavertu, Nicholas Brien, Andrei and Daniel Klein, Nathaniel and Abraham Jordan. A graveside service will take place at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery, 110 DW Hwy, Boscawen, on Friday November 3, 2023, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Catherine's honor to the Pembroke Town Library and the First Congregational Church of Pembroke.
