Obituary

CONCORD - Arthur J. Walsh, MD, 96, of Concord, NH passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Presidential Oaks. Born in Brighton, MA on March 26, 1932 to Stanley H. And Helen (McElroy) Walsh. He attended Boston High School when he enlisted in the Navy in January of 1942. He served on the U.S.S. Massachusetts from May of 1942 as a Medic’s assistant until he was honorably discharged on January 9, 1947. He was discharged as a Chief Yeoman and received the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Medal and Good conduct Medal. Arthur studied to become a Medical Doctor at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He graduated from Boston College in June of 1950 and went on to graduate from Georgetown University of Medicine in 1955 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and his Degree of Medical Doctor. On October 1, 1955 Arthur married Elizabeth Anne Coudreaut in Ossining, NY where the bride was residing. After the wedding, Dr. and Mrs. Walsh moved to Michigan where Dr. Walsh interned as a General Surgeon at the Detroit Receiving Hospital for 5 ½ years. Arthur and his wife moved back to NH where Arthur went to work at the Elliott Hospital in Manchester in December of 1960. Dr. Walsh had a private practice in Manchester all the while working for the Elliott Hospital.

In 1978 Dr. Walsh moved his family to a small island in the South Pacific called Ponape in Micronesia to assist with opening a new hospital. He traveled between Ponape, Truk, Guam and sometimes Saipan to assist other doctors in their hospitals. In 1979 Dr. Walsh moved his family back to NH where he continued working for the Elliott Hospital. In 1983, Dr. Walsh moved back to Michigan and worked at the VA Hospital as Chief of Staff. Dr. Walsh returned to NH in 1988 where he worked for The Department of Health and Human Services in Concord, NH where he retired in 1997. Arthur loved music and played several instruments. He started a hiking group with fellow doctors and friends called the “Manhattan Hiking Club.” Dr. Walsh was very dedicated to all he served. Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his two brothers, Stanley (Buddy) Walsh and Robert Walsh and youngest daughter, Sydney A. Walsh.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth C. Walsh of Concord; his children, Bernard A. Walsh of MA, Stephanie M. Cox of Tilton, Jon P. Walsh of Concord and David I. Walsh of FL; five grandchildren, Alicia M. Levesque of Tilton, Desiree L. Cox of FL, Cody P. Walsh of Concord, Chance Walsh of FL, Sydney Walsh of FL; two great-grandchildren, Lucas A. Cox and Wyatt A. Fusic; and several nieces and nephews.
