Obituary

Northwood – Arthur M. Nutter, Sr., 96, of Northwood, passed away in his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. He was born in Pittsfield on December 7, 1928, son of the late Charles H. and Lillian I. (Richardson) Nutter. Arthur was educated in both Pittsfield and Northwood, a 1948 graduate of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy where he excelled in sports. In 2022, he was proudly inducted into the Coe-Brown Sports Hall of Fame. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army, he spent 15 months in Okinawa as a medic at the 34th General Hospital. He was honorably discharged in 1952 with a rank of Corporal. Arthur was a longtime member of the American Legion in Loudon. He was employed at the Adams Brother's Shoe Shop and the canning factory in Pittsfield. He worked as a State Highway Patrol Foreman for over 25 years with the State of NH Public Highway Dept. until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Northwood Fire Dept. as Deputy Chief and Fire Warden. Arthur enjoyed riding the back roads looking for deer and other wildlife, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling but most of all he loved his very large family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Margery (Heath) Nutter, daughters, Brenda Nutter and Joanne (Nutter) Eaton, brother, Warren G. Nutter and sons-in-law, Edward Eldridge, Larry Blackey and David Daley. He is survived by his children, Linda Blackey (Ralph) of Northwood, Barbara Eldridge of Alton, Arthur Nutter, Jr. (Phyllis) of Pittsfield, Nancy Blackey of Chichester, Ellen Barbetta (Michael) of Epsom, Janet Daley of Pittsfield and Joyce Vien (Gilbert) of Chichester. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren with number seven due in June and many more by marriage. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Northwood. The Roan Family Funeral Home – Still Oaks Chapel in Epsom is assisting the family with arrangements.
