Deerfield – On April 5, 2025, Anna I. Martin, left her mortal body behind and embarked on her greatest journey to ride the cosmic light to the heavens and beyond. Born on March 6, 1929, she lived a long life, filled with love and humor which she shared with everyone whom she ever knew. She embraced life to the fullest, quick to shed a tear, but equally quick to let out an exuberant laugh that no one would ever doubt to be authentic.
Married to John C. Martin (1927 – 1978) on January 6, 1954, they had four children; John C. Martin, Jr., Elizabeth Miller, Simone Ochrym and James Martin. She raised her children in Montvale, NJ where she taught them the basics of life: reading, writing and doing the right thing.
Anna was one of nine children raised by their mother, Rose (Simone) Ingraldi in Manhattan. Her father, Peter died when she was a little girl. Even though the family faced many challenges, she often spoke of happy memories of her childhood; roller skating, swimming and riding the subway were some of her favorite pastimes. Growing up during the depression taught her to have a strong work ethic and a drive to accomplish anything she set her mind to.
After having her children, she graduated from The Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing as an LPN and later graduated from The Edna McConell Clark School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse after her husband, John had passed on. Her calling as a nurse was fitting with her ethos as she was a deeply caring person. While she was disciplined, she could also be wildly impetuous. She wouldn't give a second thought to jumping in the car and driving off to visit her sisters or children or taking a vacation to Florida. Anna was never one to sit still and even into her eighties she would be on the move. She valued her independence more than anything else. She made her own decisions and more often than not, they were the right ones.
She spent her later years living with her beloved daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Phil Miller, and their son, Troy Weston. They cared for her tenderly as she grew older in a manner that can only be described as beautiful. Anna was loved by everyone in her orbit, her husband, her siblings, her children, her grandchildren and even though very young, her great grandchildren. Anna was the last of her generation in both her and her husband's families. She was everything a matriarch should be: boldly creative, intelligent, a free thinker and adaptable to any situation. She will be missed by many, but will never be very far away. Her wit and wisdom, her humor and sensitivity, her keen love of the nature and brilliant sunsets are imprinted upon all of us.
Anna is survived by her children, John C. Martin, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ, Elizabeth A. Miller and her husband, Philip of Deerfield, NH, Simone A. Ochrym and her husband, Raymond of Webster, NY and James H. Martin and his wife, Antoinette of Ringwood, NJ; grandchildren, Benjamin Ochrym and his wife, Diana, Troy Weston, Vincent Martin and his wife, Marie, Dylan Martin and his fiancé, Kayla, and Calvin Martin and his partner, Raudis; great grandchildren, Carmine, Ava, Elva and Vega; her beloved cat, Molly and family dog, Benny, who were with her when she passed; and many, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandsons, Travis Weston and Brandon Ochrym; and siblings, Anthony "Tony" Ingraldi, Peter "Buddy" Ingraldi, Joseph "Joe" Ingraldi, Liberty Ingraldi, Mary Meed, Catherine "Kay" Batista, Pauline "Paula" Troell and Beatrice "Bea" Napolitano.
