Obituary

ALLENSTOWN- Miss Anita C. Stokes, 89, of Allenstown, passed away peacefully in the care of the Granite VNA Hospice House on June 12, 2023 after a sudden illness. Born in Manchester, Anita was the daughter of the late Lionel and Aldea (Daigneault) Stokes. She was raised and educated in Suncook. Following her graduation, Anita furthered her studies at Keene Teacher's College and later earned her Master's Degree from Clark University. Anita began her teaching career in the Pembroke School System before moving to Peekskill, NY, where she was employed as a teacher at the Oakside School for 27 years. Anita was a devoted and faithful communicant of St. John the Baptist Parish, where she was a member of the St. Therese Rosebush Society, the Ladies of Ste. Anne Sodality and the Intercessory Prayer Group. She also volunteered her time as a ballot clerk for the Town of Allenstown for several years. She enjoyed cooking, reading and loved cats and dogs. Anita enjoyed spending summers at Northwood Lake, where she cherished opening her doors to entertain family and friends at "The Anita." Anita is survived by her four godchildren: William Adinolfo, Lisa Towle, Tim Dodge and Amy Spivack as well as numerous cousins, caring neighbors and dear friends. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, June 16th from 9 to 11 A.M. in The Roan Family Funeral Home, 167 Main St. in Pembroke. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 A.M. in St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown. Services will conclude with burial in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anita's memory may be sent to St. John the Baptist Parish, 10 School St. Allenstown, NH 03275.
