SALISBURY – Alfred W. Irving, 91, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

He was born on January 17, 1935, in Concord, except for his time in the service he lived in the Concord area most of his adult life. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served over 30 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard combined. During his military service, Al traveled extensively and lived in many different places, experiences that became an important part of his life’s story. In 1973, he returned to New Hampshire to settle down and raise his family.

He loved his family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. A man of deep faith, he was a devout Christian whose beliefs were an important part of his life. He had a special love for dogs, particularly his beloved Zoey, who came to him as a persnickety rescue yet was a faithful companion and brought him tremendous joy for the last six years. Those who knew Al will remember him for his great sense of humor, his quick wit and his unmistakable ability to always have a comment ready. His smile, laughter and presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Al dedicated 30 plus years of his life working for the State of New Hampshire as a State Police Dispatcher as well as a Licensing Officer. He always had a knack for numbers; this served him well as a coder in the military and as a State Police Dispatcher. When a Trooper would call in a VIN number, Al would remember it without having to write it down.

Al had a lifelong love of sports and enjoyed coaching youth soccer and baseball, sharing his enthusiasm and encouragement with young athletes. One of his greatest joys was supporting his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He attended as many games as possible and could always be counted on to cheer them on from the sidelines. He was also an avid New England sports fan, especially when it came to the Boston Red Sox. Al loved music and dancing. If there was a wedding or party, you would find him dancing with a partner.

Al is survived by his daughter, Valerie Reppucci (Joe); his son, Chris Irving (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Katie, Jessica, Tyler, Tiffany, Carmen, Shawn, Danielle, Madison, Sarah and Theresa; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchild; his brother, William Irving (Sue); his former wife and dear friend, Linda Irving; and several nieces and nephews. He also had special fatherly friendships with Tina (Ellen), as well as with Rhonda and her family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Martha Irving; and his sister, Joanne Ames.

A graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen. Following the services there will be a celebration of life from 12pm-3pm at the Waterhorse Irish Pub in Franklin, NH.
